Job Summary:
The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily clinical operations of an outpatient pain management office. This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of patient care while leading MA, reception, surgical scheduling, and authorization staff, coordinating interdisciplinary communication, and supporting organizational goals. The Nurse Manager promotes evidence-based practices and a culture of safety and quality.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Clinical & Operational Leadership- Oversee daily operations within the pain management office.
- Ensure adherence to standards for patient safety, infection control, and quality care.
- Develop, implement, and maintain clinical protocols, including clinic workflow, PRP, and outpatient pain procedures.
- Coordinate scheduling of staff to meet patient volume and procedural needs.
- First point of contact for device/medication reps.
- Hold monthly staff meetings.
- Maintains flexibility to perform staff-level duties when required to support the team and ensure continuity of services.
Staff Supervision & Development
- Hire, train, and evaluate staff.
- Provide mentorship, education, and ongoing competency evaluations.
- Conduct performance reviews and address employee concerns or disciplinary matters as needed.
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment that encourages professional growth.
Patient Care Oversight
- Support providers in procedures including nerve blocks, spine/joint injections, and radiofrequency ablation therapy.
- Oversee triage, patient assessments, medication administration, and post-procedural monitoring.
- Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Serve as a resource for patients and families regarding pain management education and treatment plans.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Maintain compliance with controlled substance handling, storage, and documentation requirements.
- Ensure staff certifications (e.g., BLS, ACLS, autoclave competencies) remain current.
- Conduct audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives related to patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction.
- Oversee radiation badge use and replacement as indicated.
- Ensure logs (CLIA/QC/Tox) are scanned to the appropriate admin personnel monthly.
- Administrative & Financial
- Monitor supply inventory and order equipment and medications within budgetary guidelines (Ex: Omnipaque ordering and waste protocol, O2 tanks, sharps/ biohazard bin disposal).
- Collaborate with billing, coding, and compliance teams to support accurate documentation and reimbursement.
- Track productivity, cost-effectiveness, and staff utilization metrics.
- Assist in strategic planning and growth of pain management services.
Qualifications/ Experience:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice (BSN preferred).
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience; 2+ years of prior leadership/ management experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in pain management, ambulatory care, perioperative, or procedural nursing preferred.
- Strong knowledge of compliance standards for sedation, opioid prescribing, and outpatient procedures.
